At the end of the Shang Dynasty, the tyrannical King Zhou was incompetent and cruel, resulting in corrupt governance and widespread suffering among the people. The Duke of Xibo, Ji Chang, deeply felt the people's hardship and secretly gathered strength to overthrow the Shang Dynasty. Before his death, he summoned his heir, Ji Fa, to his bedside and solemnly instructed: "After my death, you must diligently govern and ensure that orders are promptly executed and prohibitions are strictly observed, only then can you achieve kingship!" Ji Fa kept his father's teachings in mind. Upon succeeding to the throne, he diligently governed, rectified the administration, strengthened laws and discipline, and led by example. As a result, all government decrees were executed swiftly and effectively throughout the court. Eventually, Ji Fa led the Zhou army to overthrow the Shang Dynasty and established the Zhou Dynasty, ushering in a new era of prosperity.
