Pointed out by a thousand people
Explanation
A metaphor for unanimous condemnation.
Origin Story
During the Western Han Dynasty, the treacherous official Dong Xian gained power, causing the people to suffer greatly. Emperor Ai of the Han Dynasty favored Dong Xian and shielded him in every way. Court officials repeatedly submitted petitions to impeach Dong Xian, but Emperor Ai refused to listen, instead demoting or executing those officials. For a time, Dong Xian's crimes became well-known, making him a target of public outrage, with everyone wanting to punish him. Official Wang Jia also submitted a petition denouncing Dong Xian's crimes, pointing out that he "would die without illness, being condemned by thousands". In the end, Dong Xian was executed, his fate confirming the prophecy of "being condemned by thousands". This story illustrates that even the greatest power cannot overcome the force of justice and will ultimately receive the punishment it deserves.
