Origin Story
In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Sun Ce, a renowned general, had offended Xu Gong, the governor of Wu County. Xu Gong harbored resentment and secretly hired assassins to kill Sun Ce. Though Sun Ce managed to escape, he suffered serious injuries and died shortly after. On his deathbed, he entrusted his power to his younger brother, Sun Quan. Sun Quan was young, and the court officials were worried. Zhang Zhao cautioned Sun Quan: "In these turbulent times, there are many wicked people. If we are too consumed by grief and neglect state affairs, it will be as if we open the door to thieves, inviting disaster." Sun Quan was moved and suppressed his grief. By ruling diligently and effectively, he eventually established the powerful Wu kingdom. This story shows us the importance of maintaining composure in adversity; emotional decisions could easily lead to disaster and ruin.
