汉文帝时期，名医淳于意因犯法被捕，他的女儿缇萦不忍父亲受酷刑，便上书皇帝，请求废除酷刑。她动情地说：‘一个犯罪的人，也想着悔过自新，重新做人。’她的孝心和对父亲的期望感动了汉文帝，不仅赦免了淳于意，还下令废除了多种酷刑。缇萦的举动，不仅救了她父亲，也体现了人们对悔过自新之人的宽容。从此，“悔过自新”也成为人们对犯错者重新做人的一种期待和希望。
During the reign of Emperor Wen of Han, the famous physician Chunyu Yi was arrested for breaking the law. His daughter, Ti Ying, could not bear to see her father suffer cruel punishments, so she wrote a letter to the emperor, requesting the abolition of cruel punishments. She said emotionally: 'Even a criminal wants to repent and start a new life.' Her filial piety and expectation for her father moved Emperor Wen, who not only pardoned Chunyu Yi but also ordered the abolition of several cruel punishments. Ti Ying's actions not only saved her father but also showed the tolerance of people towards those who repent and start anew. Since then, "repenting and starting anew" has become an expectation and hope for those who have made mistakes to start a new life.
